On the way back to the car from a beach at Cottesloe, a district in Perth, I noticed something stirring inside the hollow of a dead tree stump. I froze and to my surprise, out popped two outrageously coloured lorikeets. Even though I edged closer and was probably less than six or seven metres from them, they didn’t seem to care. Instead they made their way to the top of the stump, bathed in evening sunlight, and probably enjoyed the sunset as much as I did.
