I’ve seen so many images of Ayers Rock, or Uluru, so my goal was to try and capture something different if possible. I avoided the suggested place for sunset viewing since it was packed with other photographers. I’ve also learned to hang around for a while after sunset, as that’s when the magic can sometimes happen. Sure enough, most other visitors left as soon as the sun had set behind me – missing the show, as rays of light started to appear around the rock – a meteorological, optical phenomenon known as anticrepuscular rays.
